Local media reports that rescue forces found 22 bodies at the scene. The plane is owned by domestic airline Saurya Airlines. According to Flight Radar 24, Saurya operates domestic flights in Nepal on two Bombardier CRJ-200 aircraft, both of which are about 20 years old.

Nepal is a country with a poor aviation safety record. The most tragic aviation accident occurred in 1992, when a Pakistan International Airlines Airbus crashed into a hillside near Kathmandu, killing 167 people. In January 2023 at least 72 people died in a Yeti Airlines plane crash.
