Philippines arrests an Abu Sayyaf founder

Philippine authorities have arrested a founding member of Abu Sayyaf, the Al-Qaeda-linked group blamed for some of the worst terrorist attacks in the region. Ustadz Ahmadsali Asmad Badron, also known as Ammad or Hamad Ustadz Idris, was arrested on Saturday in the Philippines’s southern islands of Tawi-Tawi. His arrest came as government troops hunted down an Abu Sayyaf unit that attacked them last week, killing at least 10 soldiers.
