(VOVWORLD) - Representatives from AVAC Vietnam Joint Stock Company and the Philippines’ KPP Powers Commodites Inc on Tuesday visited a pig farm in Hanoi's Dan Phuong district, where Made-in-Vietnam African swine fever (ASF) vaccines have been tested.

Last month, 300,000 doses of AVAC ASF LIVE vaccine of AVAC Vietnam Joint Stock Company, were officially imported to the Philippines by the KPP.

Earlier, AVAC  had conducted testing of its AVAC ASF LIVE vaccine in the Philippines. The Philippines Department of Animal Health had requested 1,000 doses of vaccine from AVAC Company for trials. The results of these trials were highly positive, indicating that the vaccine was both safe and effective for all 1,000 pigs vaccinated.

Michael Quilitis, a representative from the KPP, said that the recent field trip to farms in Hanoi allowed them to directly observe the vaccination process at households, noting that the vaccine has generated substantial interest among local farmers in the Philippines. Quilitis also said that if the vaccination continues to produce positive results, AVAC plans to import more doses of the vaccine.

Nguyen Van Diep, the General Director of AVAC, stated that after the successful deployment of Phase 1 injections in the Philippines on a small scale, the company has proceeded to Phase 2 on a larger scale. This expansion is a significant milestone, as Vietnam has become the first country to successfully develop and produce two vaccines against ASF, a highly lethal disease that originated in Africa in 1921 with a mortality rate of up to 100%.
Last year, Vietnam announced the NAVET-ASFVAC vaccine developed by the National Veterinary JSC as the world's first commercial ASF vaccine. In February, Vietnam further publicized its second vaccine, the AVAC ASF LIVE, developed by AVAC Vietnam Joint Stock Company. After administering 600,000 doses of ASF vaccines on pigs in over 40 provinces and cities across Vietnam under the supervision of the Department of Animal Health, positive outcomes were observed. As a result, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has approved the use of these vaccines on a larger scale in various localities.
