The welcoming ceremony was held according to the highest protocol of the DPRK.  A 21-gun salute was fired in honor of the Vietnamese guests.

In the splendid atmosphere of flags and flowers and the enthusiastic cheers of the crowds of DPRK people present at the Sports Palace, Party General Secretary and President of the State Affairs Kim warmly greeted Party General Secretary Lam and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation.

The Korean leader invited the Vietnamese leader to review the guard of honour. Shortly after the welcoming ceremony, both leaders held talks on cooperation directions to make the relationship between the two countries develop more substantively.
