Party chief wishes national development cause to gain greater achievements

(VOVWORLD) -Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong extended Lunar New Year (Tet) greetings to incumbent and former leaders of the Party, the State, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front, at a meeting in Hanoi on Wednesday, the 28th day of the last lunar month. Also attending were President Vo Van Thuong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.

At the meeting, General Secretary Trong expressed his respect and gratitude to generations of leaders, compatriots, and soldiers nationwide and Overseas Vietnamese who have made great contributions to the cause of national renewal, construction and defense. He also extended wishes to officers and soldiers who are protecting the country's territorial sovereignty, borders, islands and peace for the people.

The Party leader emphasized 2024 as a pivotal year in implementing the 5-year socio-economic development plans for the period 2021-2025.

He called on the entire political system to continue striving to accomplish socio-economic development tasks at the highest level, stabilize the macro economy, focus on removing difficulties for production and business activities, continue to develop culture, education, science and technology, protect the environment, ensure social security and welfare, and improve people's lives.

It’s imperative to strengthen national defense and security, maintain independence and sovereignty, ensure political security, social order and safety, and a peaceful and stable environment for fast and sustainable national development, he said.

The General Secretary noted that the key immediate task is to boost production and business, take care of the people, officers and soldiers on duty to protect the country at the borders, seas and islands, so that the people can celebrate Tet joyfully and peacefully. On this occasion, Party leader Trong wished the cause of national construction and development to be more comprehensive, gain greater achievements, and better people's lives.

On Wednesday morning, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong offered incense to commemorate President Ho Chi Minh at House 67, President Ho Chi Minh's Monument in the Presidential Palace.
