Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong
(VOVworld) – The 8th conference of the Communist Party of Vietnam’s Central Committee wrapped up in Hanoi on Wednesday after 10 working days. General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said the decisions made at this meeting were of great importance significantly affecting the implementation of socio-economic development tasks, reform of education and training, and Party building to ensure the country’s vitality.
Based on the country’s current socio-economic situation, and in-depth assessment of the domestic and global circumstances, the Party Central Committee pointed out the need to consistently pursue the overall goals set out by the 11th National Party Congress with a major vision, instructions, goals, tasks, and measures for the country in 2014 and in the 2014-15 period. Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong said: “In the last two years of the 11th tenure from 2014 to 2015, we should exert more efforts to continue stabilizing the macro-economy, controlling inflation, restoring the pace of growth, improving the quality of our competitiveness and efficiency, by promoting three strategic breakthroughs along side with a growth model change and economic restructuring. Social security and people’s living conditions should be ensured. In 2014 we should prioritize goals related to macro-economic stabilization, and inflation control along with resolving difficulties related to production and trading, and restoring reliability for people and business.”
In regards to the comprehensive renewal of education and training, the Party highlighted the need to create basic changes in quality and efficiency. The system should be modernized, socialized, democratized, and internationally integrated while ensuring a socialist direction imbued with national identity. To achieve these goals, it’s necessary to consider education and training to be a prime national policy.
Regarding the draft amendments to the 1992 Constitution, delegates agreed that the draft has basically been completed in both content and documentation. It reflects the will and aspiration of the majority of people from all walks of life, better describing the nature of democracy and the advancement of the Vietnamese state and regime during the transitional period towards socialism. The Constitution’s compiling committee and relevant agencies will continue to collect contributions at the conference to refine the draft amendments to the 1992 Constitution before submission to the National Assembly for approval at the forthcoming session.
The Party Central Committee reviewed the implementation of the resolution on the national defense strategy in light of the current complicated regional and international situation. Mr. Trong said: “We should build a strong economy, a powerful defense system, a stable political and social environment, with the entire nation being strongly united. The Party Central Committee has particularly focused on the Party’s absolute, direct, and all-round leadership on national security and defense, the building of a firm and transparent Party and State, and a consolidated spirit of national unity. A vigilant spirit should be encouraged in order to be able to defeat any schemes or acts of sabotage by hostile forces. We should combine national construction, socio-economic development, and national defense and security consolidation, combining national strength and the strength of the era.”
Mr. Trong said five subcommittees were set up to prepare for the 12th National Party Congress and contribute opinions to draft regulations on Party elections.
