Abbas made the remarks during a meeting with his Cypriot counterpart Nikos Christodoulides in the West Bank city of Ramallah, during which Abbas said he hopes the international community will support Palestine to become a full member of the United Nations and recognize it as an independent state.

Abbas also expressed disappointment that the US, an ally of Israel, hasn’t taken any measures to pressure Israel to stop its actions against the Palestinians.

He said this will affect the Middle East peace process which has been stalled since 2014. The relations between Palestine and the US are at an all-time low.
