The ceasefire announced by Egypt took effect at 16:00 GMT. Under the new truce, the two sides agreed to the simultaneous opening of the border crossings between Israel and Gaza to enable the rapid entry of humanitarian aid and relief and reconstruction supplies. Later, Israel and Palestine will carry out negotiations on opening airports and sea ports in the Gaza strip, releasing hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the remains of Israeli soldiers, and ending the 8-year blockade of the Gaza strip.

The US hailed the truce and called on the two sides to abide by all the terms of the agreement.
