Launched by the US Government after the 2004 tsunami, the Pacific Friendship- multinational humanitarian and training initiative - has been implemented in Vietnam 12 times since 2007.
In his address, Vice Chairman of the Quang Tri provincial People’s Committee Hoang Nam said: “Quang Tri, once the fiercest battlefield and a symbol of division, loss, and sacrifice, has today become the place where we jointly implement the Pacific Friendship 2025 program. This event is not merely an annual international cooperation activity, but also a powerful message that from a painful past, we come together to nurture peace and that from shared challenges, we join hands to foster development.”.
Major General Cox Eugene Darrin, Commander of the US Army’s 18th Medical Command, said the program, running from September 8–20, features 13 activities covering humanitarian assistance/disaster relief, drone and communication exercises, mass casualty response training, and military medical exchanges.
US Ambassador Marc Knapper highlighted that humanitarian and civil projects, ranging from disaster response and medical exchanges to infrastructure improvement, would build trust, enhance mutual understanding, and ensure the partnership delivers practical benefits to the people.
