On this day of remembrance, Nguyen Thi Minh Thu and war veteran Nguyen Van Nha traveled to Mr. Trong’s hometown in Lai Da village, Hanoi, to pay tribute.
“Like other Vietnamese, I remain deeply grateful to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong,” Thu said. “I wanted to take this moment to honor him as he lives on in the hearts of young people like me.”
“I’m 85 and have been a Party member for 60 years. I came to pay my respects and hope that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will continue to bless our nation toward prosperity, strength, equality, and civilization. That is the aspiration of our people,” said Nha.
Throughout his nearly 60 years of revolutionary service, Professor, Doctor, and General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong made lasting contributions to the ideological foundation and direction of the Communist Party of Vietnam. He paid special attention to the building and rectification of the Party and political system, and the advancement of socialism.
“He left us an invaluable legacy of thought and theory on Vietnam’s revolutionary path in the new era. By steadfastly and creatively applying Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh’s thought, he clarified major theoretical issues on socialism, the path to socialism in Vietnam, the Party’s leadership role, and the socialist-oriented market economy. His legacy has not only reinforced belief in Vietnam’s path to socialism but also contributed significantly to the global communist movement and the development of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh’s thought in today’s world,” said Party General Secretary To Lam.
Building on the foundation laid by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the Party under General Secretary To Lam has pressed forward with bold reforms. These include the adoption of four long-term strategic resolutions and a major administrative overhaul, streamlining the number of provinces and equivalent units from 63 to 34 and reducing the local government structure from three to two levels.
