Kim Gunn, special representative for Korean Peninsula peace and security affairs, plans to meet with his American and Japanese counterparts, Sung Kim and Takehiro Funakoshi, in Tokyo on Thursday. The three will discuss ways to deal with Pyongyang’s launch of a Hwasong-18 solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile last week.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said North Korea launched two short-range ballistic missiles into the sea off its east coast on Wednesday. Japan’s Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada said North Korea’s two missiles landed outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone.
