(VOVWORLD) - Northern provinces devastated by typhoon Matmo are making a concerted effort to recover as floodwaters recede.

In Thai Nguyen province, all available forces and residents have been mobilized to clean up the environment and prevent a disease outbreak. Schools are expected to reopen by next Wednesday at the latest.

Nong Quang Nhat, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, said, Special attention is being given to environmental sanitation. Relevant agencies are working together to disinfect affected areas and prevent a post-flood disease outbreak.”

Environmental sanitation and epidemic prevention are also top priorities in Cao Bang province, according to Dr. Nong Tri Truyen, Deputy Director of the provincial Center for Disease Control.
