The current cold spell which has recently hit the north of the country is due to last until Saturday, with temperatures reaching between 15 and 17 degrees Celsius in the delta, dropping to between 13 and 15 degrees Celsius in mountainous areas, and even plummeting to below 10 degrees Celsius in some areas.

According to predictions made by the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting, a fresh cold spell is due to spread throughout northern Vietnam on Wednesday and Thursday, with this weather pattern being accompanied by heavy downpours and low temperatures.

Extremely cold spells will likely appear during the final half of this month, with temperatures poised to drop up to one degree Celsius below the average seen in previous years.

This trend will come about due to the impact of the La Nina phenomenon causing complicated changes to the country’s weather pattern, with the winter forecast to arrive early and temperatures set to be lower compared to other years.

Extremely cold spells will be present from the final half of December to February, next year, with January being especially cold. Each period is expected to last for between seven and 10 days, with authorities urging residents of northern mountainous areas to be aware of potentially dangerous conditions such as snow, ice, and mist.
