Addressing the 8th Congress of the ruling Workers’ Party, Kim said Washington’s hostile forces will not change regardless of who occupies the White House. He added that North Korea is expanding its nuclear arsenal for its own sake. Referring to the US-North Korea summit, Kim said Pyongyang has maximized its efforts and patience to reduce tensions in the region.
Meanwhile, he sets the door open for warming ties with South Korea. Inter-Korean relations can return to the point three years ago at any time, which, he believes, depends on South Korea’s attitude. The leader also called on South Korea to honor inter-Korean agreements to restore peace and stability to the peninsula.
