(VOVWORLD) - The Nobel Prize in Medicine has been jointly awarded to Harvey J. Alter, Michael Houghton and Charles M. Rice "for the discovery of Hepatitis C virus." The Prize was held at Sweden's Karolinska Institute on Monday.

The Nobel in physics, chemistry, literature and peace will be awarded this week, and the prize in economics will be awarded next Monday.

The Prizes bring a cash award of 10 million Swedish krona (1.12 million USD), which is shared if more than one laureate is named.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Nobel Prize awards ceremony will be broadcast on TV.
