No new COVID-19 cases in Vietnam, but 228,000 deaths worldwide

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam reported no new COVID-19 cases on Thursday morning, marking 14 days in a row it has had no infections in the community.

According to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, of the 270 confirmed patients, 130 are imported cases who were quarantined immediately upon their arrival. 219 patients, or 81%, have made full recovery, while 51 others are being treated at medical establishments nationwide. Ten patients were tested negative for the coronavirus once and four others tested negative twice or more. There has been no death by COVID-19 in Vietnam.

Meanwhile, more than 71,000 people around the world were confirmed positive for the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, bringing in the total number of infections to over 3.2 million. According to worldometers.info by Thursday noon, there were 228,000 deaths and over one million recoveries. The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting 212 countries and territories.    

There were 21,000 additional cases in the US on Wednesday, a sign of improvement. It’s total tally is about one million, 61,500 of them dead.

COVID-19 transmission is dropping significantly in Europe. France had 500 confirmed cases on Wednesday. There are currently nearly 167, 000 COVID-19 sufferers in France with 24,000 deaths, 427 on Wednesday alone. The number of new COVID-19 patients Wednesday is 4,771 in Spain and 2,086 in Italy, while the number of deaths is 453 and 323, respectively.
