The same day, National Assembly deputies discussed the organizational structure of the government and the Prime Minister position in the 2016-2021 term. The government will consist of 18 ministries and 4 ministerial agencies. Some deputies proposed the establishment of a Ministry on Family, Women, and Children and a Ministry on Youths and Children, a state agency for sea and island management which will cover maritime economy, environment, and security, and an agency for state asset management in business. In his address, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said: “The government structure which has been organized on a multi-sector management base has operated effectively contributing to administrative reforms and scrutinizing the state apparatus. The government proposes to maintain the names of the current ministries because these names have been used for a long time both domestically and internationally and changes will cause waste and complications. The government will soon issue operating mechanisms, framework decrees, and decrees stipulating functions and tasks of each ministry and ministerial agency to improve the government’s performance, coordination between ministries, and each leader’s responsibility”.

The National Assembly adopted the Resolution on the government’s organizational structure with 93.52% of the votes.

Head of the Law Committee Nguyen Khac Dinh presented a report on the law and ordinance building program for 2017 and revised the version of 2016. In the afternoon, the deputies will discuss the Prime Minister post and vote to elect a new Prime Minister. Once the result is announced, the new Prime Minister will take his or her oath of office.
