(VOVWORLD) - Netflix’s CEO has said the US streaming service provider wants to produce content in Vietnam as it seeks to expand in Asia.

Speaking at a meeting with Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung on Monday, Reed Hastings said that the streaming company wants to set up an office in Vietnam, in addition to those already in place in other Asian countries like India, Singapore, South Korea, and Japan. Netflix has been available in Vietnam since 2016. It has been seeking to produce and acquire rights for more Asian content to increase the number of global subscribers.

In September, “Descendants of the Sun Vietnam” became the first Vietnamese series to be screen on Netflix following the screening of movies like "Jackpot” and “Furie".

Netflix has more than 150 million subscribers in 190 countries.
