In Kathmandu valley, thousands of Nepalese citizens are sleeping on pavements, roads, and in open fields and parks amid cold weather due to the fear of buildings continuing to collapse.

About 21 relief camps have been set up in bare land surrounding the capital of Kathmandu.

The UN Coordinators Office reports there are about 8 million people living in seriously hit areas while financial aid, supplies and rescue teams are flying in from around the world to assist rescue efforts.

The UN has disbursed 15 million USD through the UN Central Emergency Response Fund to allow international humanitarian organizations to promptly increase rescue campaigns for Nepal.

The US, Britain, Japan, and India have financial, personnel, equipment plans to assist Nepal.

It’s estimated to cost more than 5 billion USD for the post-disaster reconstruction in Nepal.

American seismologists say the 7.8-magnitude earthquake moved the ground beneath the Nepalese capital by up to 3 metres.

It remains unclear whether the shifts may be large enough to necessitate adjustments to high-precision world maps.
