During a news conference in Ankara, Turkey, Stoltenberg underscored the importance of conveying a very clear message to all parties that they must cease fighting immediately and support all efforts to find a peaceful, negotiated solution.
Stoltenberg insisted that there is no military solution to the conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.
The same day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian, and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo discussed tensions in Nagorno-Karabakh and issued a joint statement calling for an immediate ceasefire.
The Ministers condemned in the strongest terms the dangerous escalation of violence inside and outside Nagorno-Karabakh.
They said that recent attacks allegedly targeting civilians – both along the Line of Contact and in areas of Azerbaijan and Armenia outside Nagorno-Karabakh – are an unacceptable threat to regional stability.
