(VOVWORLD) - Nearly 72 million voters cast their ballots in Vietnam’s recent National Assembly and People’s Council election, representing a turnout of 99.7% - the highest rate ever recorded - the National Election Council said at Saturday’s press conference in Hanoi announcing its resolution on the election results and the list of 500 deputies to the 16th National Assembly.

The result reflects strong political awareness, a sense of responsibility, and broad public consensus regarding this important national event.

The composition of deputies has continued to improve, with fewer part-time members and more full-time legislators. Notably, the proportion of deputies expected to work full time reached a record 40%.

For the first time, a representative of the O Du, one of Vietnam’s smallest ethnic groups, has been elected. Meanwhile, women account for 30% of deputies.

The National Election Council affirmed that the election was a success, ensuring democracy, transparency, compliance with the law, and absolute safety.
