(VOVworld) - The National Assembly’s Standing Committee opened its 17th session in Hanoi on Tuesday. In his address, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said that the deputies will discuss revisions made to the 1992 Constitution 3 months after collecting public opinions. The deputies will also comment on 9 draft laws including a revised Land Law and a Law on Corporate Income Tax and tax related solutions to assist production. The programs on National Assembly supervision, the building of laws and ordinances and reports on the implementation of the Law on Practicing thrift and Preventing Wastefulness in using government bonds from 2006 to 2012 will also be high on the agenda. National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said: “All the discussions at this meeting are in preparation for the 5th session of the NA. With a thorough preparation, the next session of the NA will successfully fulfill voters’ needs and aspirations”.

The deputies also discussed the National assembly and its standing committee’s supervisory program for next year. Chairwoman of the Committee for social affairs Truong Thi Mai said that the focus should be placed on the implementation of laws and policies on poverty reduction: “This has been a major policy of our party and state through various tenures. We currently have 30 policies in place regarding poverty reduction involving 8 ministries and sectors in all provinces”. The deputies said that supervision should help reduce ineffective investment as a way to fight corruption. National Assembly chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said: “Government reports at the National assembly should be considered as a supervisory measure. Each committee and council concerned must report the implementation of their anti-corruption activities to the National Assembly”. The deputies agreed that the National Assembly’s supervisory program for next year should focus on law enforcement in investment management and the construction of hydro-power plants, economic restructuring and sustainable development, as well as the implementation of poverty reduction policies.
