High on the agenda were alcohol advertisement and promotion, control of home-made alcoholic beverages, and mitigation of problems related to alcohol consumption. Most deputies agreed on the need for stricter control of alcohol’s negative effects. Nguyen Ngoc Phuong, a deputy from Quang Binh province, said the draft law should clarify that alcohol cause severe consequences to human health and national economy. He said: “Consuming alcohol can lead to mental impairment of drivers and cause serious accidents. It can also lead to heart disease, liver cirrhosis, and cancer. Measures are needed to reduce alcohol-related problems.”
