In an interview with reporters on Sunday, Ambassador Mai Phan Dung, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, and other international organizations in Geneva, said the conference will shape strategic policies and global parliamentary cooperation to respond to major challenges amid the current volatile world.
According to Ambassador Dung, the World Conference of Speakers of Parliament is the most important parliamentary foreign affairs forum globally, held every five years, alongside the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) General Assembly which takes place twice a year. It’s held in rotation at the world’s three largest multilateral centers, including New York (USA), Vienna (Austria) and Geneva (Switzerland), which are home to key UN agencies and leading multilateral institutions.
Chairman Man’s working trip is an opportunity for Vietnam to continue to make active and responsible contributions to the common activities of the IPU and to promote the IPU-UN cooperation, said Ambassador Dung.
