The same day, the deputies debated the UN Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment and the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. They agreed that the approval of the UN Convention matched the Vietnamese Party and Government view and benefited Vietnam’s 7 million people with disabilities.
Nguyen Sy Cuong, a deputy from Ninh Thuan province, said: “During this tenure, the NA is scheduled to adopt several laws. To prepare legal conditions for the approval of the UN Convention, functional agencies are required to revise laws and regulations relating to the rights of people with any disability. It’s important work to ensure that Vietnam avoid lacking the appropriate regulations matching the Convention. When the NA approves the Convention, the Government must sign an action plan to implementing it.”

Regarding some articles that Vietnam reserves in the Convention, the deputies said it’s necessary to revise some laws including the revised Civil Precedure Law and the understanding of concepts in the Convention among nations.
