(VOVworld) - Nine people were killed and 16 others injured in a shooting attack in southern German city of Munich on Friday evening before the shooter shot himself dead, said Munich police early on Saturday.

The shooter, identified as an 18-year-old German-Iranian, held dual citizenship of Germany and Iran and had lived in Munich for more than two years. The shooting occurred several days after the attack carried out by a teenager armed with an axe and a knife on a train in Wuerzburg city, Bavaria state on July 18, injuring 5 people.

The German Federal Security Council held an urgent meeting on Saturday morning chaired by Chancellor Angela Merkel.

World leaders voiced their indignation over the attack. US President said Germany is a close ally of the US, and the US supports Germany by all means if necessary. President of European Council Donald Tusk said the Europe showed solidarity with Germany. British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson conveyed deep condolences to the victims and their families.

On Saturday, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh asked Vietnam’s representative agencies in Germany to update the situation of Vietnamese citizens there. According to Vietnamese Embassy in Germany, no Vietnamese has been reported to be affected by the attack.
