The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) made the announcement at a workshop in Hanoi on Friday, reviewing 10 years of implementing the 11th Party Central Committee’s Resolution on proactively responding to climate change.

Participants underscored the need to improve Vietnam’s capacity for natural disaster forecasting, warning, and monitoring, adapting to climate change, as well as natural disaster prevention in the new period and especially the reduction of greenhouse gases.

Tang The Cuong, Director of MONRE’s Department of Climate Change, emphasized on the need to improve institutions to respond to climate change and increase communication to create a consensus.

Agencies, localities and establishments should be instructed to implement regulations on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change, he said.

"More investment should be made in infrastructure for disaster prevention and control, strengthening forecast capacity, and improving the ability to respond to natural disasters and climate change impacts, especially in vulnerable rural areas and disadvantaged communities,” Cuong added.
