More than 1.1 million new COVID-19 cases recorded worldwide in 24 hours

(VOVWORLD) - According to worldometers.info, as of Wednesday morning, there have been more than 283 million cases of COVID-19 in the world and more than 5.4 million deaths.

In the past 24 hours there have been more than 1.1 million new cases and more than 6,000 deaths.

The US led the world in the number of new infections with more than 512,000 cases, followed by France and England. The US is also first in the number of new deaths, with Russia second, and Poland the third.

Overall, the US is still the country with the most cases and deaths, followed by India and Brazil.

On Tuesday, the World Health Organization warned that the Omicron variant could overload the health system. The world is seeing a sharp increase in the number of COVID-19 cases due to this variant.
