(VOVworld)- The spokesperson for Vietnam’s Foreign Ministry Luong Thanh Nghi on Thursday briefed reporters on aspects of Vietnam’s external relations activities in July. At a media conference in Hanoi on Thursday, Nghi said that on July 9, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and his Lao counterpart will attend the inauguration ceremony of the border marker No 460 in Thanh Thuy border gate in Nghe An province and Nam On border gate in Lao province of Bolikhamsay as well as a meeting to mark the completion of the building of the border markers along the Vietnam- Lao border. Nghi says:“This is a significant event marking the completion of the building of border markers along the Vietnam and Laos border contributing to the building of a border of peace, friendship, stability, cooperation and development and boosting socio-economic development in border areas in particular and between the two countries in general. To mark the occasion, the two sides will sign a government-level agreement on resolving free migration and uncertified marriages in the border areas between Vietnam and Laos. This agreement will contribute to the efficiency of the Agreement on Border Management Regulations between the two countries”.

In regards to Vietnam’s shipment of 11 kilograms of highly enriched uranium from Dalat Nuclear Research Institute to Russia, the spokesperson said that following this accomplishment, Vietnam has realized its commitments as stated in the joint declaration of the 2nd Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul as well as its commitment to the International Atomic Energy Agency and agreements with the US and Russia. Nghi said the shipment reflects Vietnam’s consistent policy of using nuclear power for peaceful purposes only and for nuclear nonproliferation. Vietnam will continue closely working with the IAEA and the international community in ensuring nuclear safety and security.

Deputy Foreign Minister Bounkeut Sangsomsak met with representatives of the Laos press and Vientiane-based Vietnam News Agency correspondent to highlight the completion of the building of the border markers along the Laos-Vietnam border line. Deputy Foreign Minister Bounkeut Sangsomsak said:The completion of the building of the border markers along the Laos-Vietnam border line is important and has great historic significance for both countries’ political cooperation. Laos has common borders with four countries so the building of border markers along the Laos-Vietnam border line is a meaningful act and has become a model for other countries to follow. A grand ceremony to celebrate the event and the inauguration of border marker No. 460 in the provinces of Bolikhamsay and Nghe An is evidence of the relationship between the two countries.”
