Memorial and burial services of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong held |
At 1 p.m. on Friday. the memorial ceremony for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was held simultaneously at the National Funeral Hall at 5 Tran Thanh Tong in Hanoi, Thong Nhat Hall in Ho Chi Minh City, and the Cultural House of Lai Da village, Dong Hoi commune, Dong Anh district, Hanoi, the General Secretary’s hometown.

Attending the memorial service at the National Funeral Hall in Hanoi were President To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man, General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith and his wife, Chairman of the Cambodian People's Party and President of the Cambodian Senate Hun Sen, President of the Cuban National Assembly Esteban Lazo Hernandez, representatives of international delegations, and many private citizens.

Officiating at the service, Politburo member, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Secretariat, and Head of the Funeral Organizing Committee Luong Cuong said: "With boundless grief, at this sacred moment, we gather here to bid farewell to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to his final resting place."

Reading the eulogy, Politburo member and President To Lam, Head of the Funeral Committee, said: "General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was an exceptionally excellent leader, a shining example of studying and following Ho Chi Minh thought, ideology, and morality, and a steadfast and prestigious Communist Party member. He embodied the qualities, talents, bravery, and wisdom of the generation of Vietnamese leaders in the renewal period."

Politburo member and President To Lam said the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is a huge, irreparable loss for the Party, State, and people of Vietnam. The country lost a talented leader, the world progressive communist movement lost a sharp theorist, international friends lost a sincere friend and close comrade, and his family and homeland lost an outstanding member.

President To Lam said: “After nearly 60 years of revolutionary activities, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, with his profound and sharp intelligence, left behind a valuable ideological and theoretical system on the revolutionary path of Vietnam in the new era. He consistently and creatively applied Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh thought to achieve the goal of national independence and socialism. This invaluable heritage has strengthened Vietnam's strong belief in the path to socialism, making an important contribution to the development of the Communist movement in the world today.”
President To Lam said the entire Party, people, and army are determined to wholeheartedly fulfill the wishes of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, taking to heart his advice: "If you are a human being, be a Communist, wholeheartedly serving the nation and the people."

After the eulogy, Party and State leaders, international guests, and family observed a moment of silence to commemorate the General Secretary.
Following the family's expression of gratitude, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's coffin was transported through several streets of the capital to Mai Dich Cemetery, Hanoi.
The burial ceremony took place at 3:00 p.m. on the same day.
After the burial ceremony, Politburo member and Standing member of the Party Secretariat Luong Cuong, Head of the Funeral Organizing Committee, expressed gratitude to the Party and State leaders, distinguished delegates, compatriots, armed forces units, intellectuals, religious dignitaries, diplomatic corps, leaders of countries, organizations, and international friends for sending wreaths and condolences, and attending the respect-paying ceremony, memorial service, and burial ceremony to bid farewell to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to the resting place.
