Former State President Nguyen Minh Triet met with participants in the Paris Conference

The participants include former President Nguyen Minh Triet, former Vice President and former head of negotiators at the Paris Conference on Vietnam Nguyen Thi Binh, overseas Vietnamese who supported the negotiation and other negotiators. Ms. Binh said half of negotiators from the Provisional Revolutionary government of the Republic of South Vietnam and the Democratic Republic of Vietnam passed away. The others, despite of their old age, are continuously contributing to the nation. Binh expressed her hope that younger generations will continue to uphold the tradition to further develop Vietnam: “We need to try our best to develop Vietnam into an independent, strong and prosperous country. This is also a difficult and challenging struggle in the complicated international situation. It requires national unity to be successful”.

The Paris Conference on Vietnam was a diplomatic struggle which took place from May, 1968 to January, 1973. The signing of the Paris Peace Accord in 1973 contributed greatly to the victory of the Spring Offensive in 1975 to liberate the South and reunify Vietnam.
