(VOVworld) – A meeting to mark the 40th anniversary of Vietnam-Canada diplomatic relations and the 146th Canada Day was held in Ho Chi Minh city on Tuesday. Vice Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Hua Ngoc Thuan praised Canada’s achievements in recent years and its powerful role in the global economy. He said that over the last 4 decades the Vietnam-Canada comprehensive partnership has been developing consistently and stable political relations have created further momentum for economic growth. Vietnam has had 50 projects in Ho Chi Minh city with a total investment capital of 91.5 million USD. Canada is among the 15 countries with the highest number of tourists to Vietnam with last year’s figure reaching 62.000. Ho Chi Minh city established a sisterhood with Toronto city in 2006. In his address, Canadian Consul General Audri Mukhopadhyay said: “We have a small community of 2.000 Canadians in Ho Chi Minh city. The highlight of our social activities has been the Terry Fox Run, a humanitarian initiative held every year to connect the international community with Vietnam. The city’s union of friendship organizations is an important partner to boost friendship between the two countries.”
