These officials are facing charges of mismanagement and negligence. Seven of them currently hold or have held positions in water resource management and dams. One of them is the former Mayor of Derna, who was dismissed shortly after the disaster.

The flood, which occurred on September 10, was caused by the breach of two dams. This incident took place following the passage of a tropical storm through the region surrounding Derna. Tens of thousands of people have perished or remain missing, according to reports.
