As per the count of more than 92% of the votes, more than 617,000 city residents voted for Cortizo. Right-wing Democratic Change (CD) party candidate Romulo Roux came in second place with 31% of the vote.
On Sunday, Panamanians cast their ballots to elect a president and vice president as well as 71 deputies to the National Assembly.
