Korean conglomerates interested in expanding investment in Vietnam

(VOVWORLD) - Major corporations expressed their wish to expand investment in Vietnam during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s meetings with leaders of Korean businesses CJ, POSCO, Daewoo E&C, and LG Display.

The Prime Minister highlighted Vietnam’s focus on high-value industries like semiconductors, AI, big data, and biotechnology as well as its goal to pursue green growth and sustainable development. He called on the Korean corporations to invest in Vietnam, support human resource training and technology transfer, and help Vietnamese businesses participate more in global supply chains.

The business leaders said they consider Vietnam a good place for long-term investment and want to further strengthen their investment cooperation in Vietnam.

CEO of POSCO Holdings Chang In-hwa said POSC O is interested in converting its dedicated port in Vietnam into a commercial port and hopes to receive the greenlight to invest in an LNG power plant in Vietnam.

At their meeting, Chairman & CEO of the Korea Development Bank Kang Seog-hoon told PM Chinh it plans to increase its investment in Vietnam in strategic sectors like high-tech industries, innovation, infrastructure, and green growth.

Chairman of Daewoo E&C and Chairman of the Korea Housing Builders Association Jung Won said his company is planning to build a second urban area in Thai Binh province which is expected to attract more South Korean enterprises to Vietnam.

Vice Chairman and CEO of Celltrion Inc. Kim Hi Hyoung said his compnay is ready to support the Vietnam Pharmaceutical Corporation (Vinapharm) with technology transfers and production links, and wants to distribute its products in Vietnam via Vinapharm’s distribution system.
