“When I ran for president, I made a commitment to ensuring transparency regarding the declassification of documents on the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on America,” Biden said in a statement announcing the order. He added, “As we approach the 20th anniversary of that tragic day, I am honoring that commitment.” A number of families of 9/11 attack victims have for years pushed the government to declassify and make public more information around the event.
President Joe Biden is expected to attend the 9/11 memorial in New York City to mark the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks.
