The agreement will come into force 60 days after at least six countries finalize domestic procedures. To date, Mexico has completed the required documents.
Japan hopes to ensure the CPTPP can take effect as soon as possible as the Cabinet of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is speeding up free trade in the process countering the rising protectionist moves of US President Donald Trump. At the same time, Japan is attempting to encourage the US to return to the pact.
CPTPP was signed by 11 member countries on this past March in Chile. The deal will create favorable conditions for boosting economic growth, generating more jobs, reducing poverty, and improving living standards of member countries.
