Abe told a news conference in New York on Thursday that he wants to hold talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the November Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting in Beijing, China. Abe said that there are remained many unsolved problems between China and Japan, adding that APEC was a good opportunity for the two countries to hold talks. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has called on the Chinese President several times to hold talks but Beijing has continuously rejected them. Japan’s relations with China have deteriorated under Mr. Abe, in part over rival claims to disputed islands in the East China Sea, known as the Senkaku in Japanese and the Diaoyu in Chinese.
