(VOVworld) - Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida said Saturday he agreed with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi to boost bilateral cooperation by working toward the resumption of "various" high-level talks.

Kishida made the remark after meeting with Wang Yi in Beijing the same day. Amid some signs of a thaw in relations strained over territorial and historical disagreements, the meeting was the first official one between foreign ministers of the two countries since September 2012.

The meeting took place one day after Japan and China announced a four-point principled agreement on handling and improving the bilateral relations. According to the agreement reached during Friday talks between Japanese National Security Advisor Shorato Yachi and Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi, both sides were unanimous to resume high level talks on politics, diplomacy, security, and economics. They also admitted existing differences regarding the disputed island known as Diaoyu in Chinese and Senkaku in Japanese but said both sides will have solutions to restore trust and ease tension.
