Mr. Renzi formally resigned on Monday after the defeat of his constitutional reform referendum a day earlier, but the president requested a delay.
In Sunday’s referendum, 60% of Italians said no to the constitutional reform proposed by Renzi’s Democratic Party. Opposition parties said they will pressure the Prime Minister to resign as soon as possible and form a new government.
