Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni called on the EU to rewrite the Dublin Regulation on asylum to deal with the worst crisis since the World War II. He underscored the need to have a common approach on the rights to ask for asylum of migrants and that regulation should be applied across the continent.
Italy, France, and Germany are trying to work on a common European response, redistribute migrants from the countries most affected by the migration flows, and offer incentives to people not to attempt to cross into Europe. The three countries proposed, among other things, to speed up the repatriation of migrants denied refugee status.
