(VOVWORLD) - The Israeli military launched a new wave of airstrikes on Houthi targets in Yemen’s capital Sanaa on Thursday in response to an earlier attack by the group.

Defense Minister Israel Katz said the strikes killed dozens of Houthi fighters and destroyed several weapons depots and unmanned aerial vehicles. In a post on social media platform X, Katz warned that the Houthis will pay a heavy price for ignoring lessons from Iran, Lebanon and Gaza and continuing attacks against Israel.

Hours later, the Houthis fired a ballistic missile that triggered air-raid sirens across central Israel, forcing hundreds of thousands of people into shelters. The Israeli military said it intercepted the missile, with no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

Since March 18, when Israel resumed military operations in Gaza, the Houthis have launched 91 ballistic missiles and more than 40 drones at Israel. Houthi leaders have repeatedly said their attacks will continue until Israel ends its campaign against Palestinians in Gaza.
