The statement came after more than 100 UN member states, in a letter, affirmed their full support for the Secretary-General, while condemning the Israeli Foreign Minister’s decision against Guterres. Actions of this nature undermine the capacity of the UN to carry out its mandate and may further delay the end of all hostilities and the establishment of a credible path towards a two-state solution, the letter said.
Last week, Katz announced on X he had declared the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, persona non grata, citing Guterres’ failure to “unequivocally condemn” Iran’s October 1 missile attack on Israel.
