ISIS has lost most of its territory: US envoy

(VOVWORLD) - The Islamic State (ISIS) has lost 95 percent of the “caliphate” it declared three years ago in Iraq and Syria, the US-led coalition said Thursday.

Special envoy Brett McGurk said approximately 7.5 million people have been freed from ISIS and the group’s finances are at their lowest level to date. McGurk said that the influx of foreign fighters joining ISIS in Syria has almost ended, and that many jihadists have been captured as they tried to cross the border.
