(VOVworld) – Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki said Wednesday that the Iraqi Parliamentary election, scheduled for late next month, is likely to be affected as members of the Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) have submitted resignation letters.
Maliki said the resignations, protesting political and judicial intervention into the election, jeopardizes Iraq’s election process. He called on the commission members to withdraw their resignation letters and called on the parliament to reform electoral law as soon as possible.
On Tuesday, the IHEC members explained their resignations as due to relentless pressure from Iraq’s legislative and judicial agencies.
