His remarks came in response to a speech by Donald Trump in which the US president decertified his backing for the landmark nuclear deal signed in 2015 by P5+1 group members including the US, Britain, France, Russia, Germany, and China.

Rouhani called the deal not renegotiable, adding that Trump's decision would isolate the US as other signatories of the accord remained committed to it. The leaders of Britain, France and Germany released a joint statement, saying that they remain committed to the international nuclear deal with Iran. Russia also delivered a similar statement. The European Union's foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said no single country could terminate the deal. Meanwhile, Israel and Saudi Arabia welcomed what they called a “new US strategy” toward Iran.
