Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Wednesday that Iran is moving up with its nuclear activities by activating more hundreds of nuclear enrichment centrifuges. Speaking at a meeting with Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei and senior officials, Ahmadinejad said that there are 11 thousand centrifuges active in enrichment facilities”. But he did not give a more precise figure nor detail how many centrifuges are working at each Iran’s enrichment sites.

The US and the EU have imposed sanctions on Iran on the grounds that Tehran is seeking ways to produce nuclear weapons and its refusal of suspending the uranium enrichment program.

Iran’s state media, quoting Khamenei’s statement, said Wednesday that the sanctions and pressure by the West won’t force Iran to withdraw its nuclear program and Tehran can defeat the measures aimed at blocking its oil and banking industries.
