Iraq is experiencing its worst violence since 2008. According to the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), nearly 7 thousand Iraqis have been killed and about 16 thousand people wounded so far this year. Iraqi President Nuri al-Maliki called on Washington to share intelligence and high-tech weapons. However, according to observers, the Iraqi government has not yet resolved the cause of the problem, which is sectarian conflict. As new elections approach on April 30th, 2014, authorities worry about escalating violence.
