An investigation is underway by authorities to determine the real motives behind the hijacking. Earlier, Egyptian Prime Minister Sherif Ismail asked the Civil Aviation Minister to carry out an investigation on the hijacking and reinforce measures an Egypt’s airports.

The hijacking ended at 2 p.m on Tuesday, 5 hours after the airplane was forced by the hijacker to divert to Cyprus’s Larnaca airport. Egyptian suspect Seif El Din Mostafa surrendered to security and the 62 people on board were released uninjured. No explosives were found in the suspect’s belt. Egypt’s Civil Aviation Minister Sherif Fathi said the hijacking was not an act of terrorism, and the man appeared to be psychologically unstable.
