A spokesperson for the US State Department said the US government still believes a hostage exchange agreement would be beneficial for both the Palestinian and Israeli people, because it would lead to an immediate ceasefire and greater humanitarian aid for Gaza.
The WAFA news agency said the Palestinian Authority has called on the US Government to "immediately intervene" to prevent Israel from carrying out a military operation in Rafah.
Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz condemned the Israeli military's actions in Rafah and said the Israeli government will be held responsible.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian urged Israel to "stop attacking Rafah". He said violence cannot solve the problem or bring real security.
